The Evolution of the Internet, Does It Bring A Revolution With It?

Being born in the late 90’s I’ve really been able to see the evolution of technology and the internet take place throughout my entire life. Being so young I don’t remember much but isn’t that kind of why the internet was invented in the first place, a place to store and share information. Only evolving from there getting better with every update. Well that’s the point at least unless you are Apple and update bugs onto probably the most loyal customer base on the planet so they buy the newer faster phone with an extra camera. I mean the Apple IOS operating system is amazing and if your product is that good you can treat people like shit right? money talks and shit walks? I think that’s an improper way to go about business but you can’t make everyone happy and I know that’s an older example but same thing with all the charging cords always switching it up different ends for different this that blah blah (pisses me off obviously…) Sorry sometimes these big corporations get under my skin and I go off on a little rant but it’s right in front of us and they continually do it and we speak up but when will we be heard? Actually letting the market decide in a decentralized way is possible today with the ever evolving technology that the blockchain brings with it but they will never let that happen. Hence what will it take for the peoples voices to be loud enough to be heard. I think Bitcoin is more than just the most scarce valued digital asset in the world! It stands for the world coming together. Not needing the trust of some centralized institution claiming to do everything for the people while lining their own pockets creating rules and regulations to make unfair playing fields! Think about it these people that say they are looking out for you banned gold at one point! Yes that’s a fact it was illegal to own gold! Obviously they had to change that LAW but at one point in history it was a real one believe it or not! Wow that rant went longer than expected…..ok let’s learn about the internet and how information and data have been the key to evolving our society. With it comes good and bad but overall the internet has brought the world closer together, more so then ever before. (Still a long way to go) But when Web 1.0 started disrupting the world as we knew it people were fighting it from the very beginning. Then Web 2.0 came along that made it an essential part of our daily lives and unable to live without for most. Now hopefully Web 3.0 can take us to places we’ve never even dreamt of.

What is Web 1.0 (1991-2004)

  • Static pages (no email, no facebook, no interactivity) the consumer was getting information from it the internet by reading static web pages.

  • Essentially a big encyclopedia linked together

Think about it ever since the change from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 it has significantly changed our lives and how we function as a society in whole. The past 20 years of Web 2.0 has never seen faster change and they are trying to stifle it now? Think about the changes in society happened as Web 2.0 evolved over the years.

Web 2.0 (2004 -present)

  • The biggest change was instead of us the consumer using the internet to get information from it which we still do but what’s been even more valuable is the information we have been giving to the internet!

Yes in recent years this has become a much newer topic but in crypto it would be possible to own your actual data and then if you didn’t care if they had your information you would actually be the one getting paid to give it to them instead of Facebook or any other social platform selling your data! We may be far away from this but I just want you to know what is possible with the technology and why people have started making so much noise about it!

The data they collect does feed the algorithm to give you things you like and also makes the experience on the platform much better. But just know that they are sharing that information and they are only giving you better content that hits your dopamine receptor in your brain that will make you scroll on tick tok for hours! I don’t have a tik tok I hate tik tok (China) full disclosure and it should actually be called tick tok for the tick they are imprinting on your brain.

Well that other stuff you were talking about sounds pretty good actually owning your own data?! Yeah the blockchain and Web 3.0 can make that possible! Instead major banks and corporation are at the world economic reform in Davos Switzerland literally right now talking about tracking everything. If they canceled the WEF and the Billionaires stayed home for the weekend and parked the Private Jets for once they’d make a bigger actual impact then just sniffing each others asses in Switzerland eating chocolate.

  • Web 2.0 really comes down to the age of targeted advertising and “they” want to double down on that and track everything you do. Digital assets are coming I choose the freedom money! #Bitcoin

Web 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 are not actual terms in the dictionary where you will find an exact definition for each. However they are more of the idea of improving the internet and how those changes build a better internet one that values transparency, security, and innovation. The smartest minds in the computer science industry are behind their desk working on blockchain technology. They see the potential impact and are flocking from every corner of the world to be a part of it!

So Web 3.0 is still to come in my opinion and there are some very promising projects out there today! I have another blog about socialfi coming out shortly that will take a look at one of the most exciting alternative layer 1 solutions in the space! If you have any guesses let me know over on Twitter/x!
